Juneau Summer Project FAQ's

Can I get a Job?

Yes. Your primary place of reaching out to others will be on your job site. The hours we will work are between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. from Monday-Thursday. Our typical work-week is 32 hours a week.

On the 2007 Delta Project students worked as kayak guides, they worked in gift shops, lumber stores, and Wal-Mart types of jobs. Many of the jobs associated with tourism and the fishing industry will not be options for employment due to their need for employees who will work long hours during the tourism season.

Most jobs available to you this summer will pay over $10 per hour. However we cannot guarantee your wage. Your salary is up to the employer, and the job you take for the summer.

How do I get to project?

There are two ways to arrive in Juneau; by air or by sea. Juneau is surrounded by ice fields and glaciers and there are no roads leading to Juneau. There are 10-15 flights that arrive in Juneau each day from Seattle and Anchorage via Alaska Airline. Roundtrip tickets from the Midwest generally will run you between $600-$750.

If you are driving to Juneau, you'll want to book passage in advance for your vehicle on the four-hour ferry that runs between Skagway, Alaska and Juneau once each day.

Students who drive to Alaska will experience what is for many a once-in-a-lifetime experience of driving the Alaska Highway (ALCAN). Typically the drive takes around 56 hours of driving time from the Midwest. Every single Juneau Men's Project alumni who has driven to Alaska lists the drive up to Juneau as one of the highlights of their summer. It's absolutely amazing.

The city borough of Juneau is located on a 40 mile narrow stretch of land carved out from the mountains that in many places drop into the sea. Our Project housing is on the campus of the University of Alaska - Southeast, located around 15 miles from downtown, and 5 miles from the nearest grocery store. A city bus runs once each hour near the campus that students without vehicles can take to get to work.

Each project participant is responsible for arranging their own transportation and arriving in Juneau on May 27, 2008.

Where will I live on summer project?

Our Juneau Summer Project housing is on the campus of the University of Alaska-Southeast. Each person will have their own room in a four bedroom apartment and share the bathroom, living room, dining room, and kitchen with three other people

How do I pay for summer project?

Once you go through our application process and receive acceptance, you will receive information on financial support raising. You'll be able to invite others-family, friends, fellow church members, etc.-to invest in your summer with prayer and finances. We'll guide you with instructions. It is always exciting to see God bring in the financial support that we need for our summer project staff and students.

Your cost for the Juneau Summer Project is $2900  (not including transportation costs to and from project, transportation costs on the Project, and most meals). The $2900 project fee cover your housing,  project materials (Bible studies, notebooks, etc.), and the cost of project activities.

Is this project co-ed?

No. We are a men's project. At the same time we will have the Juneau Women's Project of 12 amazing and godly women around us. As men we need women in our lives. There is a level of dysfunction that will take place in our lives if we do not have women around us for 10 weeks.
